Andrew Peel, MSc
Andrew’s primary areas of expertise are in low carbon buildings and renewable energy. His professional and academic experience ranges from consultancy, program management, authoring technical and non-technical articles, course and lecture delivery, and technical research.
Andrew provides Passive House and sustainability consultancy, certification, and training services to the building sector. Prior to forging out on his own, Andrew worked in a variety of capacities in Europe. These included managing the UK Government’s innovative carbon saving technologies scheme and the Energy Saving Trust’s Best Practice Helpline. He also managed and delivered Passive House, Code for Sustainable Homes, wind turbine development, and thermal modelling projects as well as organizing Passive House study tours. Further activities included contributing to the development of the UK Government’s housing energy calculation methodology (SAP) and the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP).
Andrew’s previous career was as an electrical engineer. The leap into sustainability came with the completion of a MSc in Renewable Energy. While writing his Master’s thesis, Andrew worked at the Passivhaus Institut in Germany, where the foundations of his Passive House and energy efficiency expertise were laid. Andrew is one of only a handful of Canadian-based Passive House certifiers accredited by the German Passivhaus Institut.
Cameron Laidlaw, MBSc
Cameron comes from a background in energy efficient design and construction. Having completed a Master of Building Science degree, he brings this knowledge to bear in helping to deliver projects that meet the Passive House standard.
At Peel Passive House, Cameron works on both certification and consultancy projects, working closely with clients on Passive House projects around the world. His residential projects include single family homes, multistory apartment buildings, townhouses, retirement homes, and mixed-use developments. On the non-residential side, Cameron's projects include offices, retail spaces, restaurants, production facilities, libraries, galleries, and community centers.
Stephen Quinn, BEng
Stephen is a certified Passive House Designer with over 5 years experience working as a project manager with a leading Passive House consulting company in Germany. His interest in the Passive House industry was sparked after an internship with the German company. Stephen comes from an engineering background, having completed a Civil Engineering degree in the UK.
Being at the forefront of the Passive House movement Stephen has gained firsthand experience working on some of the largest Passive House buildings worldwide. With projects ranging from hotels to museums he has gained a wealth of knowledge in applying the Passive House principles to numerous types of buildings.
Stephen has a great deal of international experience having worked on Passive House projects in a number of countries including Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He recently had the role as Passive House project manager for one of central London’s first certified social housing developments.
At Peel Passive House, Stephen primarily works in certification and consultancy, working closely with clients on Passive House projects.
Melissa Furukawa, MBSc
Melissa is a Passive House Consultant with experience in low energy building design and analysis. She completed her Master of Building Science degree at Ryerson University where she took courses in Building Science Theory, Energy Efficiency Building Services and Renewable Energy Systems, Building Envelope Systems, and Ecological and Resource Efficient Design. Melissa has worked on a variety of projects all over the world designing buildings that are climate-responsive by incorporating passive design elements in order to maximize user comfort while minimizing energy use. She has extensive experience in energy modelling, daylight analysis, climate analysis, as well as various other engineering analyses.
At Peel Passive House, Melissa supports the company's certification, consultancy, thermal modelling, and research activities.
Pierre-André Santin, MSc
Pierre-André has over 20 years experience managing large-scale technology projects. His lifetime passion for architecture and environmental stewardship led him to Passive House building design.
As a Passive House Building Certifier accredited by the Passivhaus Institut in Darmstadt, Germany, Pierre-Andre consults on both design and certification projects. He works with builders, engineering firms, architects, developers and government organizations on ultra-low energy single family, multi-residential, mixed and special use Passive House projects. Trained as a Passive House Trades Person, Pierre-André also advises local field teams on proven energy efficient detailing and construction techniques.
Pierre-André is the founder and managing principal of MIZU Passive House Consulting in Vancouver, British Columbia. Pierre collaborates closely with PeelPHC to deliver a variety of leading-edge Passive House projects.
