Advanced PHPP Course
In this two-day course, participants will explore advanced PHPP topics to further develop their knowledge and understanding of modelling techniques. An emphasis will be on technologies and standards specific to the North American market. Material relevant for larger multi-family and mixed-use buildings will also be covered. Topics include:
- Assemblies – finer modelling points
- Thermal Bridging
- Qualitative and quantitative assessment
- 3D penetrations
- Service penetrations
- Ground – detailed modelling techniques
- Windows
- Designing for you climate’s comfort and hygiene requirements
- Mullions & Curtain walls
- Shading – modelling awkward situations
- DHW – detailed system modelling
- Heat Pumps – detailed modelling
- Cooling equipment
- Reliable data sources
- Diagnostic Tools
Participants will obtain a suite of custom tools to aid in their PHPP modelling.
Learning Objectives
- Learn advanced PHPP modelling techniques
- Understand and deal with North American standards and systems in relation to PH
- Tackle large building aspects in PHPP
- Explore data sources and diagnostic tools.
Intended Audience: Architects, developers, self-builders and other building professionals who want to build on skills developed in a PHPP introductory course.
Prerequisites: 1-2 days of PHPP training or experience using PHPP on an actual Passive House project. This is not an introductory course. Participants who lack hands-on experience with PHPP may find it difficult to keep up with the course material and exercises.
Continuing Education: This course is approved for 16 Passive House Institute (PHI) CPD credits.
Course Requirements: Laptop PHPPv9.5 IP. The course will be taught in IP.

Andrew is a seasoned Passive House trainer, consultant, and building certifier accredited by the German Passive House Institute (PHI). His professional and academic experience ranges from consultancy, programme management, technical and non-technical articles and publications, course and lecture delivery, and technical research. He has been delivering high quality educational courses for over 19 years, including 9 years of PH training, both for Passive House Canada and independently. He has also worked at PHI, where he developed PHPP algorithms.
