Multi-family Building Ventilation - You've Built Tight, Now Ventilate Right
Medium sized multi-family Passive House projects are quickly becoming a dominant archetype in North America. As with any Passive House, a key component to a successful project is a well planned and executed heat recovery ventilation system. However, unlike single family homes, ventilation presents significant challenges in the design, construction, and operation of multi-family buildings. This full day workshop will explore challenges unique to this building type. Topics include requirements, system options, performance assessment, controls, commissioning, mixed-use protocols, and building certification options. Case studies will illustrate will demonstrate how multi-family Passive House projects are being realized on the continent. A group design exercise will round out the day.
Learning Objectives
Intended Audience: Architects, developers, self-builders and other building professionals who want to better understand requirements and approaches to ventilation in multi-family buildings.
Prerequisites: CPHC or CPHT training, preferably with some experience working on larger Multi-family projects.
Continuing Education: This course is approved for 8 Passive House Institute (PHI) CPD credits.
Course Requirements: None. Laptop optional.
Online Course: This course is available online on the Peel School of Passive House training platform:
